EXCLUSIVE (First look) – Queen, short film

Queen Miss SahharaQueen, a short film, written and directed by Uche Aguh, under the 55Media Banner is the first installment in #Project55 – A new and exciting filmmaking venture that will see Aguh and long-time collaborator, Dennis Schmitz produce five intrinsically unique and different short films, all centered on the lives of Black women in the diaspora, cutting across genres, time periods and style.

Queen is an Afro juju dark thriller, an Old Nollywood throwback to the forgotten days of the juju priestess in the Forest.

Isio Mena who played Ifemelu in Americanah, another 55Media project, stars in the film. Mena plays the role of Nkem, who is an immigrant woman, pregnant with twins for husband Ozi, played by Aguh. The couple appears seemingly normal and loving, but strange supernatural forces abound threaten both their marriage, and the life of their unborn twins.

Adwoa Akoto - QueenMaking her stellar debut into the world of 55Media is Adwoa Akoto who plays Chioma, a luminous, bright and effervescent Nigerian immigrant woman who operates between the natural and the supernatural world. Akoto was last seen in the groundbreaking HBO/BBC, BAFTA-Award winning drama, I May Destroy You, written by Michaela Coel.

Rounding out the cast is Oseloka Obi who plays the role of Emeka, and Miss Sahhara who plays the role of ‘The Mother’. Obi can next be seen at Stone Nest Shaftesbury Avenue performing in Dante or Die’s SKIN HUNGER.

The film was shot on location in South East London, and other parts of Greater London using the Panasonic Lumix S1H and colorgraded using the 55M Advanced Luts.
