Dennis Schmitz is a talented cinematographer born in Germany. His father, a photographer, introduced him to the world of cameras. He made his first scenes with friends while using a Hi8-camera in elementary school. As a young child, he began analyzing and deconstructing different parts of the filmmaking process; acting, camera, lights, audio etc. German films never attracted him. He was more interested in productions, which were made in the UK, France, Sweden, Spain, and Russia etc. Movies made in these different countries felt grittier and braver to him. He fell in love with movies, which addressed culture, relationships, and social injustices. He loves movies, which contain important messages and stories, which make people more empathic about the fates of others.
Dennis and Uche Aguh (Writer, director, actor) met in early 2016, and made their first film “I STILL DO” under the production umbrella, 55media; a joint partnership between the two creatives. The two of them, both interested in telling important, hard to swallow, real truthful stories, hit it off quite well.
